Tips For How To Look After A Fruit Tree

in Books/How to,Fruit

How you care for your newly planted tree really depends on what type it is, what the climate is and the type of soil.  When it comes to fruit trees, a lot die in their early years because they haven't been cared for properly and have suffered from pests and diseases.  This is why you should take the time to learn how to care for your fruit tree.

When the fruit tree is young the roots, branches and trunk haven't yet developed all of their strength.  This is why you will often see young trees to have their branches snap off.  This is why people often support the branches with boards or tie them up higher.

Nutrition for the tree to grow healthily is also very important.  Make sure you learn about the particular tree you are growing and also learn about the soil you have.  It's very difficult to give a specific answer because there are so many variables.  You can search for info about your tree on the internet, in a book or simply talk to an employee of your local garden center.

Be careful about the amount of water you give the tree.  You don't want to allow it to get too dry yet at the same time you don't want to drown the tree.  Instead you will want to monitor the soil moisture and water it gradually.  There are special watering bags that you can buy them will release the water slowly and directly to the roots.

If in the event that you find any branches that are damaged or diseased then you should remove them.  There's no point in allowing the tree to waste precious nutrients on a branch that's damaged.

When it comes to picking the fruit, make sure you pick all of the fruit.  You don't want to allow the fruit to become rotten as this will allow unwanted bugs to take up home.  Diseases can also transfer from the rotting fruit to the tree.  If fruits have fallen to the ground, also remove them - you can always place them on the compost heap.
