Pop Up Gazebo for Easy Shade

One of the best investments we have made was in this simple little pop up gazebo.  When working in the garden the sun gets really hot.  The truth is sometimes we get really tired, too.  When it is time to take a break, it is nice to have a little shade close to the garden.  Needless to say, there are not many trees close to the large vegetable garden.

This little pop up gazebo is less than $100 and has been used for just about everything.  We often set it up next to the garden when several families are working together in the community garden.  For those moms with kids --- especially the young children --- having a shady place to protect the little ones from the harsh rays of the summer sun is a life saver.  In reality, most of us take a break under the gazebo from time to time.  It also provides a great place to put an ice chest and refreshments for those little breaks.

We have found the protection to be a wonderful place to gather when we are picking our vegetables, too.  After bending over in the sun picking beans or okra, having a shady place to sort out the harvest of the day is a nice way to end a long day of gardening.

Needless to say there are many uses for this little gem.  We let the kids take it when they set up their vegetable stand at the Farmers' Market.  Some of the kids have even used it at the school for shelter during a ball game.  Because it is so easy to set up and take down, there are almost infinite ways to use it.
