Lawn and Garden – Weed Control

in News and Ideas,Organic

Just the thought of keeping both your lawn and garden free of weeds can conjure up images of aching knees and sore backs from having to sit for hours in your garden. This is you trying to do the job manually without having to use harmful and toxic chemicals that can be bad for you and the environment. If you don’t want to spend hours pulling the weeds out by hand or use chemicals to get rid of them, here are a few tips that should help you get the job done the smarter and easier way. It is important that we identify weed types before we begin to determine which method is best for weed control.

One of the best ways to do this is through a process called soil solarization which is a completely organic way of eliminating lawn weeds even before they have the chance to sprout. This process would certainly require a bit of work from you and it can only be effective if you start from a clean slate.

Another option is to start using landscape fabrics as it is known to lessen the occurrence of weeds without the needs to use any chemicals that could be very harmful to your health as well as your plants. After all, you’re only after the weeds and as such, you wouldn’t want to kill every other plant in both your lawn and garden.

Garden mulch is also a great and beneficial approach to eliminating weeds. Whilst both of the options above really do work wonders, mulch can be used in conjunction with them to double its effectiveness. Mulch also has the ability to provide your plants with insulation which is extremely important especially during summertime as it would keep the soil underneath your plants moist and cool.

There are also old “home remedies” for lawn and garden weeds which include the use of vinegar to kill off weeds. It could potentially work, as long as you find super strength vinegar that is commonly found in feed and weed supply stores.
