For the first time since Eleanor Roosevelt's Victory Garden during the WWII era, the White House will have a real vegetable garden.
This comes following a petition by over 100,000 gardeners encouraging the Obamas to plant a garden and to set the example for the nation. Laura Bush planted a small garden and the Clintons had a roof top garden but this is the first full fledged vegetable garden on the White House grounds in over 60 years.
Following the food scares in the past few years and the rising costs at the grocery store, this could be the best season ever to begin a vegetable garden. Of course, we are sure the Obamas need not worry about the rising cost of food. However, more and more we have seen the new First Family as real people who do real things, especially with their children.
Let's wish the Obamas much success with their vegetable garden. And, success with yours!
